However, a little-known fact is that Fuchu City is the most ancient urban settlement in all of the Tokyo area! This City has a history spanning more than 1,300 years. Okunitama Jinja is one of Japan&rsquo;s oldest Shinto shrines, with history dating back almost 2,000 years. This shrine is actually older than the existence of Fuchu City itself! Located down the street from Fuchu station, it is considered one of the five major shrines of Tokyo, with the others being the Meiji Jingu, Yasukuni Jinja Shrine, Hie Jinja, and Tokyo Daijingu.
